TC57 WG3 Status Reports

REPORT 002 ON THE WORK OF IEC TC57 WG3

November 17 1998

This is the second unofficial report on the work of IEC TC57 WG3

Work has been completed on the draft of the new standard IEC 60870-5-104. This will enable Application Data Units, as defined in IEC 60870-5-101, to be transmitted over a variety of digital data networks using the standard TCP-IP transport interface.

Work has started on the draft of a second addendum to IEC 60870-5-101 giving supplementary definitions. These clarify some existing definitions to ensure full interoperability and add a number of useful new definitions.

REPORT 001 ON THE WORK OF IEC TC57 WG3

September 18, 1998

This is the first of a series of occasional reports giving unofficial information about the work of IEC TC57 WG3.

This Working Group is responsible for drafting new international standards for Telecontrol communication protocols, to be used in Telecontrol installations concerned with widely distributed Electric Power systems.

Members of the IEC must vote on all such drafts before they can become standards.

Work has recently been completed on a draft addendum to IEC 60870-5-101 that provides additional Time Tags. These are for use in installations where the central station cannot assign, with certainty, the hour, day, month and year to incoming time-tagged information.

Work is nearing completion on the draft of a new standard to be called IEC 60870-5-104. This is intended to enable Telecontrol Application information (ASDUs as defined in IEC 60870-5-101) to be transmitted using Digital Data Networks in place of permanent directly connected analogue data circuits.
